Expedition: South Korea

The Rundown

Who: Christine M. Reedy [aka Reedy (or any variation thereof), Beyoncé, B, Muhammad, so on, etc]
What: Teaching English as a Second Language
Where: Ulsan, South Korea
When: Departing the USA August 17th, 2010
RecruiterEPIK (English Program In Korea)
Duration: One Year (potential for a second year)
Why: Fame & Glory?

I arrive in Korea August 18th, at which point I'll have a 10-day orientation course in Incheon (near Seoul). Then, I get shipped to Ulsan to begin work. I don't know who I'll be teaching, could be kids aged 1-12 or even adult learners. Or both. Those details aren't shared until I get there. The superintendent will basically use me as he sees fit.

The EPIK program provides housing and 50% of medical costs, so most of my salary will be saved for later use (ie moving to NYC and finding gainful employment there). My contract is for one full year of work, with an option to renew it for a second year. As it stands now, I plan to stay one year, but that is viable to change.

For those of you who know I have no ken of the Korean language, don't worry. (A) I will be attempting to learn Korean as I go and (B) I'm working with co-teachers who know both Korean and English.

I'm kind of crap when it comes to blogging, but I will try to keep this blog updated for your benefit. Look forward to pictures, videos, and witty anecdotes. If you have any questions or requests, feel free to comment at any time.
